I don’t know why, I used to think this song was so annoying back in the 90s but now it’s actually such a cute song to listen to.

That aside, congratulations to Panos Prevedouros on a great race.

In one of life’s little ironies, Panos Prevedouros was featured this morning in the Honolulu Advertiser and it was said by UH political scientist Neal Milner that Panos was a political unknown and that it wasn’t likely that he would win - yet on that same website a web poll indicates that Mufi and Panos are now head to head with 7,962 votes cast at 41.8% and 41.4% respectively.

Now just imagine what would happen if Panos got numbers like that in the Primary …

It’s now seven days until the September 20th Primary and this morning I went to Kapolei Hale and voted for progress: I voted for Panos.  Today’s inspirational message is actually a thank you to Dr. Panos Prevedouros for giving the people of Honolulu the opportunity to make a choice between light and darkness.

To some people, Panos is an expert engineer.  To others, he is an educator.  And to still others, he is a visionary.  But for a select few, Panos is an angel of hope for this city and it’s future!

As you enjoy this ballad, remember to remind your friends and family that the time is now to vote for Panos … absentee early voting is open and you can vote for Panos.

Today is Patriot Day, and how can we possibly overlook as part of our inspirational series the rousing speech by President George W. Bush following the terrorist attacks on America.  While all eyes were on Washington and most Americans were not sure what the attacks portended for the future, President Bush spoke before the nation:

Good evening. Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom came under attack in a series of deliberate and deadly terrorist acts. The victims were in airplanes, or in their offices; secretaries, businessmen and women, military and federal workers; moms and dads, friends and neighbors. Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil, despicable acts of terror.

The pictures of airplanes flying into buildings, fires burning, huge structures collapsing, have filled us with disbelief, terrible sadness, and a quiet, unyielding anger. These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed; our country is strong.

A great people has been moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shattered steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.

America was targeted for attack because we’re the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining.

Today, our nation saw evil, the very worst of human nature. And we responded with the best of America - with the daring of our rescue workers, with the caring for strangers and neighbors who came to give blood and help in any way they could.

Immediately following the first attack, I implemented our government’s emergency response plans. Our military is powerful, and it’s prepared. Our emergency teams are working in New York City and Washington, D.C. to help with local rescue efforts.

Our first priority is to get help to those who have been injured, and to take every precaution to protect our citizens at home and around the world from further attacks.

The functions of our government continue without interruption. Federal agencies in Washington which had to be evacuated today are reopening for essential personnel tonight, and will be open for business tomorrow. Our financial institutions remain strong, and the American economy will be open for business, as well.

The search is underway for those who are behind these evil acts. I’ve directed the full resources of our intelligence and law enforcement communities to find those responsible and to bring them to justice. We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them.

I appreciate so very much the members of Congress who have joined me in strongly condemning these attacks. And on behalf of the American people, I thank the many world leaders who have called to offer their condolences and assistance.

America and our friends and allies join with all those who want peace and security in the world, and we stand together to win the war against terrorism. Tonight, I ask for your prayers for all those who grieve, for the children whose worlds have been shattered, for all whose sense of safety and security has been threatened. And I pray they will be comforted by a power greater than any of us, spoken through the ages in Psalm 23: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me.”

This is a day when all Americans from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace. America has stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time. None of us will ever forget this day. Yet, we go forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world.

Thank you. Good night, and God bless America.

President Bush was extremely wise to speak from the 23rd Psalm, because indeed, the sure foundation of the Word of God can always be counted upon in the time of trouble. (Or at any time, for that matter.)  As long as your foundation is built strong, nothing can overthrow you.

Today, my prayer is that God would firmly establish the victory and success of Panos Prevedouros’ campaign upon the promise that God has called the weak to shame the strong and the despised and rejected things to bring to nothing and no effect the established things.  I believe in the Name of Jesus for strength and power for Panos to win this Primary election, because nothing is impossible for those who believe. May God be gracious to us and favor us, that all may know that the Lord is with us, amen!

Countdown to the Primary: T-Minus 10 Days September 10, 2008

Beginning now until the day of the September 20th Primary, I will showcase a famous speech, movie moment, or historical event as part of an inspirational campaign to encourage and embolden all of you who are praying, believing and working in love that Panos Prevedouros will win the Mayoral Race. Please subscribe by RSS so that each day you’ll get a message of the day!

Today’s T-Minus 10 Days message comes from the dark days of the Second World War, when General George Patton found his forces hampered by terrible snow storms that made progress nearly impossible.  Despite being a vulgar man, something moved Patton to enter a chapel in Luxembourg and voice the following not-so reverent prayer for favorable weather - which God graciously granted:

Sir, this is Patton speaking. The last fourteen days have been straight from hell. Rain, snow, more rain, more snow - and I’m beginning to wonder what’s going on in Your headquarters. Whose side are You on, anyway? For three years my chaplains have been explaining that this is a religious war. This, they tell me, is the Crusades all over again, except that we’re riding tanks instead of chargers. They insist we are here to annihilate the German Army and the godless Hitler so that religious freedom may return to Europe. Up until now I’ve gone along with them, too. You have given us Your unreserved cooperation. Clear skies and a calm sea in Africa made the landings highly successful and helped us to eliminate Rommel. Sicily was comparatively easy and You supplied excellent weather tor our armored dash across France, the greatest military victory that You have thus far allowed me.

You have led German units into traps that made their elimination fairly simple. But now, You’ve changed horses in midstream. You seem to have given von Rundstedt every break in the book and frankly he’s been beating hell out of us. My army is neither trained nor equipped for winter warfare. An as You know this weather is more suitable for Eskimos than for southern cavalrymen. But now, Sir. I can’t help but feel that I have offended You in some way. That suddenly You have lost all sympathy with our cause. That You are throwing in with von Rundstedt and his paperhanging-god. You know without me telling You that our situation is desperate. Sure, I can tell my staff that everything is going according to plan, but there’s no use telling You that the 101 st Airborne is holding out against tremendous odds in Bastogne, and that this continual storm is making it impossible to supply them even from the air.

I’ve sent Hugh Gaffey, one of my ablest generals, with his 4th Armored Division, north toward that all-important road center to relieve the encircled garrison and he’s finding Your weather much more difficult than he is the Krauts. I don’t like to complain unreasonably, but my soldiers from the Meuse to Echternach are suffering the tortures of the damned. Today I visited several hospitals, all full of frostbite cases and the wounded are dying in the fields because they cannot be brought back for medical care.

But this isn’t the worst of the situation. Lack of visibility, continued rains have completely grounded my air force. My technique of battle calls for close-in-fighter support, and if my planes can’t fly, how can I use them as aerial artillery? Not only is this a deplorable situation, but, worse yet, my reconnaissance planes haven’t been in the air for fourteen days, and I haven’t the faintest idea of what’s going on behind German lines.

Damn it Sir, I can’t fight a shadow. Without Your cooperation from a weather standpoint I am deprived of an accurate disposition of the German armies and how in hell can I be intelligent in my attack?

All this probably sounds unreasonable to You, but I have lost all patience with Your chaplains who insist that this is a typical Ardennes winter, and that I must have faith. Faith and patience be damned! You have just got to make up Your mind whose side You’re on. You must come to my assistance, so that I may dispatch the entire German Army as a birthday present to Your Prince of

Sir, I have never been an unreasonable man; I am not going to ask You for the impossible. I do not even insist on a miracle, for all I request is four days of clear weather. Give me four clear days so that my planes can fly, so that my fighter-bombers can bomb and strafe, so that my reconnaissance may pick out targets for my magnificent artillery. Give me four days of sunshine to dry this blasted mud, so that my tanks may roll, so that ammunition and rations may be taken to my hungry, ill-equipped infantry. I need these four days to send von Rundstedt and his godless army to their Valhalla. I am sick of this unnecessary butchery of American youth, and in exchange for four days of fighting weather, I will deliver You enough Krauts to keep your bookkeepers months behind in their work. Amen.

The lesson of the day: God answers prayer, and prayer really does work!  If I were God, I would have nothing to do with a prayer this arrogant - but I’m not - the fact that He granted it shows that He is more than willing to answer the prayer of those who are willing to come to Him.  My prayer today is that God would grant Panos Prevedouros wisdom, discernment, and Godly power to pick up supporters and votes in these next few days, and that God would whittle down the strength of his opponents, for God’s Word says that he choose the weak things, the rejected things, the things that are not to bring to no effect the things that are.  God’s Word says that His grace is sufficient for us, for His power is perfected in weakness.  May God enable Panos to win this election by His grace and His power which covers our humanity and enables us to do supernaturally what our natural cannot. In Jesus Name, Amen!
